When the Pressure is On: Crisis and Advocacy Communications for Chiropractic Leaders

Thursday, November 5 | 3:30pm – 4:30pm | Regency South

Reporters are calling. A controversial issue is dominating the conversation. A colleague’s actions are creating challenges for the profession. What do you say, and who are you speaking for? In this practical and engaging session, veteran communications strategist Kerri Richardson shares real-world tools for helping chiropractic leaders, board members, and association advocates communicate with confidence when the stakes are high. Attendees will learn how to represent their association rather than just their personal opinions, navigate difficult questions, and protect credibility in a rapidly changing media and policy environment. Based on Richardson’s decades of experience in journalism and government, these media training and crisis communications practices offer attendees the skills they need to maintain credibility and calm no matter the challenge.

Speaker Biography

Kerri Richardson

Kerri Richardson has spent more than 20 years driving communications strategy in environments that are high-stakes, fast-moving, and squarely in the public eye. She’s advised governors, mayors, university leaders, CEOs,
and nonprofit executives through crises, natural disasters, transformational change, and, as she puts it, “sometimes,
plain old bad luck.”

As a television journalist, she won two Emmy awards for reporting before pivoting to government communications, first as a spokesperson for Louisville’s “Mayor for Life” Jerry Abramson, then as communications director for Kentucky governor Steve Beshear. The National Association of Government Communicators named her its 2014 National Communicator of the Year for her work on Kentucky’s implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

In 2026, she founded Connexus PR to do exactly the work she finds most meaningful: helping the organizations that are making life better for Kentuckians to communicate with clarity, strategy, and confidence.

The name Connexus is intentional. Kerri operates at the nexus of government relations, community relations, and media relations. It’s the center of a Venn diagram where few practitioners live. She’s been on both sides of the interviewing microphone. She’s reviewed the P&L. She understands how all these systems work, where they get stuck, and what actually breaks the logjam.

Her superpower is her ability to anticipate how a message will land with different audiences before it’s ever delivered. She talks, writes, and works in plain language. If something goes sideways, she pinpoints the snag and explains what happened. Truth first, then actions.
